professional CAD software for linux
before importing any architectural layout into Blender it must be cleaned and converted to DXF format, for this task I found DraftSight the most effective DWG compatible CAD Software on linux (via WINE), and now with a native linux version !
here’s the free download link for windows, Linux and mac os platforms
on the time of writing this article there’s no 64bit build available yet, but you can force install the 32bit version
here’s the steps to follow for ubuntu:
open the terminal go to the download folder or where you downloaded the deb package
$ cd Downloads
$ sudo dpkg --force-architecture -i DraftSight.deb
if the install process doesn’t launch look on the terminal for the missing libraries, for me I had to install those packages, but it depends on your system :
libdirectfb-extra and libxcb-render-util0
here’s a sample dwg layout from one of my recent projects opened in DraftSight for ubuntu
dwg layouts imported into blender after that had been cleaned and converted to dxf

the final project modeled from the layouts shown above.

eMirage website first launch
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم و الحمد لله رب العالمين و الصلاة و السلام على محمد عبد الله و رسوله
welcome to my new website, I’ve finally decided to launch a blog instead of the classic gallery, and since it’s built on a dynamic way, i’ll try to update it regularly
the goal is to showcase some of our work, and share some of our techniques; and most importantly keep in touch with you through the comments.
thanks, and stay tuned for future articles
eMirage.
